Holden's all-new VU Ute has been granted Australia's premier award
for design excellence. The judges' decision to nominate the Holden
Ute as the winner of the 2001 Australian Design Award for Industrial
Design was unanimous.
Mr Brandon Gien, National Manager of the Australian Design Awards,
said the new Holden Ute won the award "hands down" with its dynamic
sports recreational design.
"It was an extremely critical assessment, because the Ute is, after
all, an Australian icon," he said.
"Apart from its aggressive looks and sporting stance, we were impressed
with the innovation displayed in the design of features like the tailored
tonneau cover, which also contributes to noise reduction," he said.
"The Holden Ute is an impressive 'crossover' vehicle that blends
the functionality of a light commercial with the comfort and performance
of a highly specified passenger vehicle," Brandon Gien concluded.
The VU model is the first all new Holden Ute in a decade. It went
on sale in January this year, almost exactly 50 years after the first
Holden Ute was launched in 1951. Buyers have a choice of three models:
Ute, Ute S and Ute SS - and ECOTEC V6 or Generation III V8 performance.
